Community-based protection is a core approach of the Asylum Seekers and Refugees Solidarity Association (ARSA), aimed at promoting human dignity, social resilience, and sustainable empowerment. This approach emphasizes the active participation of the community itself, identifying needs from within, and strengthening local capacities to respond effectively to challenges.

ARSA focuses on refugees, asylum seekers, and other vulnerable individuals, including women, children, older persons, persons with disabilities, and low-income families. We strive to create safe, inclusive, and supportive environments within both host and displaced communities. We believe that protection is most effective when communities are not just recipients of services but active partners in designing and implementing solutions.

ARSA’s community-based protection activities include:

  • Identifying vulnerable individuals and referring them to specialized support services, including legal, health, and psychosocial support

  • Raising awareness within communities about rights, available services, and protection mechanisms

  • Strengthening social cohesion and reducing tensions between refugees, asylum seekers, and host communities

  • Supporting local initiatives, volunteer networks, and community leaders to respond to both immediate and long-term needs

  • Empowering individuals and families to actively participate in decision-making and community processes

With years of field experience, a wide network of volunteers, and strong collaboration with public institutions, civil society organizations, International organizations, ARSA is committed to advancing community-based protection as a sustainable tool for safeguarding, empowerment, and social inclusion. Through this approach, we aim to create safer, dignified, and more independent lives for vulnerable individuals and communities.
