Türkiye's new social media age-verification regulations are reported to enter into force on 1 November 2026. Existing accounts may also be subject to age verification, with a reported transition period ending on 31 March 2027.

If you are 18 or older and want to reduce the risk of losing access to your account because of an incorrect age assessment, follow these steps.

Step 1: Check Your Date of Birth

  • Open your social media account settings.

  • Find the personal information or date-of-birth section.

  • Check that your registered date of birth is accurate.

  • If it is incorrect, request a correction through the platform's official settings or support service.

The procedure may differ between Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other platforms.

Step 2: Secure Access to Your Account

  • Make sure your registered email address is active.

  • Check that your phone number is up to date.

  • Keep your password secure.

  • Enable two-factor authentication if available.

Step 3: Respond to Age-Verification Requests

If a platform requests age verification:

  • Check the notification inside the official application.

  • Follow the platform's instructions.

  • Use e-Devlet or another official verification method if one is provided.

  • Never share your password or login verification codes with another person.

Step 4: Appeal If Your Account Is Incorrectly Restricted

If you are 18 or older but your account is incorrectly classified as belonging to a minor:

  1. Read the restriction notice carefully.

  2. Start the official appeal or review process.

  3. Submit the required documents only through the platform's secure system.

  4. Keep the submission date and any reference number.

Step 5: Remember the Important Dates

  • 1 November 2026: Reported date the new regulation enters into force.

  • 31 March 2027: Reported end of the transition period for existing accounts that have not completed age verification.

These dates do not mean that all accounts will be closed simultaneously. The outcome depends on the user's age and the verification process.

Step 6: Protect Children's Accounts

Do not use a false date of birth to bypass age restrictions for children under 15. For teenagers aged 15–17, pay attention to the special privacy and safety requirements that apply to their accounts.

Important warning: Check that a website or link is official before submitting any information. Never send identity or residence documents to unknown individuals. Foreign nationals should consult the platform's official guidance about the age-verification methods available to them.
