As the Afghan Refugees Solidarity and Association, we met with young people from different countries living as refugees in Turkey.
60 young refugees from different cities attended the meeting, our program was organized by our Association President, Dr. It started with the opening speech of Zakira Hekmat, Doctor Hekmat said the following while speaking.
Today, 20 June is World Refugee Day, according to the report published by the UN Refugee Organization UNHCR, the number of people fleeing war, persecution and conflicts has exceeded 82 million 400 thousand by 2021.
82.4 million forcibly displaced people,
26.4 million refugees,
4.1 million refugees…
By the end of 2020, they make up about 1% of all people in the world.
Around the world, around 25 people continue to be forcibly displaced every minute.
This number is more than double what it was 20 years ago. In 2020 alone, 2.3 million people were displaced. 2021 marks the tenth year of the continued increase in forced displacement worldwide. Refugees make up 26.4 million of the people who had to leave their native land.
When these data are compared with the world population, it is seen that 1 out of every 95 people has to leave their home. Children under the age of 18 make up 42 percent of all forcibly displaced people. In Turkey, which has the largest refugee population in the world with 3.7 million people for the last 7 years, 1 out of every 22 people is an asylum seeker. All these data draw attention to the importance of solidarity with the refugees who had to leave their homes by escaping from war, conflict and persecution.
Young Refugees shared experiences with each other, talked about examples and success stories, and exchanged views on their school life and future goals.
