May 10, 2025, Kayseri – As part of the “Safe Tomorrows” project, which aims to support women in their struggle against gender-based and domestic violence, a meaningful awareness-raising session was held. Within the framework of the Mikrofon program supported by the American Council, the event brought together members of the Gülçemen Women’s Rights Committee to address the issue of gender-based violence (GBV) in a comprehensive manner.
During the event, Dr. Zakira Hekmat provided an in-depth presentation on the definition and types of gender-based violence (physical, psychological, economic, and sexual), as well as the support mechanisms available in Türkiye. Participants were informed in detail about their legal rights, application procedures, emergency helplines, bar associations, and services provided by civil society organizations.
The session was conducted interactively, with participants actively contributing to discussions on challenges and possible solutions in combating GBV. In this way, the event not only served as a platform for information-sharing but also strengthened solidarity and gave women the space to voice their experiences and perspectives.
As part of the event, specially prepared informational brochures were distributed to participants. The brochure, titled “Women Succeed, the Future is Safe,” included information on emergency helplines such as 112, the KADES app, and Alo 183, as well as women’s shelters, legal aid through bar associations, and protection mechanisms provided under Law No. 6284. The brochures were made available in multiple languages to ensure accessibility.
This event was considered an important step toward strengthening women’s access to their rights, enhancing community solidarity, and building a safer future.
