UNHCR, in cooperation with the Swiss Embassy in Türkiye, commemorated World Refugee Day and the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention through a photo exhibition and reception held at the Swiss Residence in Ankara.

The opening remarks were delivered by Tim Fürst, Ambassador-Counselor at the Swiss Embassy in Turkey; Reyhan Özgür, Acting Director General for Migration Policies and Visa Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Angela Li Rosi, UNHCR Representative in Türkiye; and Zakira Hekmat, President of ARSA.

Bringing together representatives from public institutions, civil society organizations, academia, embassies, and international organizations, the event provided an opportunity to reflect on the continued relevance of the 1951 Refugee Convention and the enduring importance of the right to seek safety and protection.

Through photographs from UNHCR archives and images from projects supported by Switzerland in Türkiye, participants explored how the principles established 75 years ago continue to guide responses to displacement and refugee protection challenges today.
